5 Realistic Things You Should Be Doing to Stay Organized
March 10, 2020
We know that color-coding, chalkboard menus, and food storage containers all sound like great ideas but who has time for that? We broke down 5 practical things you can do in your home to stay organized below.
1.Get rid of everything you don’t use. Seems like a simple one but if you can donate clothing you don’t wear, sell decor that isn’t your style anymore and throw away food that has expired, you’ll be able to make the most out of your quest for organization. If you have time to ask each item if it ‘sparks joy’ for you, great! But if not, we recommend a simple, have I used/worn this in the last few months?
2. BINS, BINS, & BINS. Grab some cute but functional storage bins and plan on using them in every room of your home. Use them in your office for filing and loose mail, in your living room to hide cords, in your kid’s room for toys, in the bathroom for loose makeup and hair accessories, you can even grab a bin with a lid to hide your dog food! Bins have a great way of adding style to the space while also being useful.
3. Add labels. Once you’ve got everything in bins, consider what could be useful to label. Being able to distinguish between your king, queen and twin-sized sheets in a single glance will make it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for — both when you’re looking for something and when you’re putting it away.
4. Embrace the ‘drop zone’. The idea of everyone putting their shoes, book-bag, coats, and keys away daily is great but maybe not very practical. Instead of fighting a never-ending battle, we suggest creating a usable area in your entryway, complete with hooks, shelves, and bins. By offering a dedicated place for these drop zone items, everyone wins!
5. Control the clutter. Take inventory of what you have and give everything a home. If it doesn’t have a place in your home, it will only create clutter and you will consistently be cleaning it up and moving it around your house. A clean, well-maintained environment makes it easier to maintain good organizational habits and be stress-free!
