We often talk with people who have a lot of misconceptions about what it means to build a custom home. We thought it would be a great opportunity to help set the record straight and clear up any confusion!
1.It Takes Forever
It really doesn’t have to! If you have a deadline, make sure to express that from the beginning. To speed up the process, make sure you have an idea of what you’d like to build. Many times just coming up with the design and choosing finishes can hold up the process. There are sometimes delays from the weather and permitting, but very rarely do they have significant impacts on your move-in date.
2. You Have To Spend Tons of Money
Whenever people think about a custom design, a homemade specifically to your liking, it’s assumed to be very expensive. The truth is, while the price of a custom home can run high, there are plenty of affordable options for budget-conscious buyers. The cost of your custom home will depend on a number of factors such as your home size, location of the property, home-style, parcel size, and the number of rooms. Taking all that into consideration, you can still build a very affordable custom home. Here at A&E, we work with you to create a home you’ll love within your budget.
3. The Choices Are Overwhelming
While it’s true that choosing paint colors, faucet finishes and flooring styles can feel a bit daunting – that’s what we are here for! You give us a general idea of your style and we will present you with a few quick options to choose from. This cuts down on the time you have to spend searching, but still gives you the chance to make the final decision. Our in-house designer makes sure that all your ideas can come together to work perfectly in your home.
4. There Are Too Many Surprise Costs
One thing that can be difficult when building a custom home is understanding that upgrades do cost extra. Make sure to find out from your builder what is included in the base price so you don’t end up surprised. At A&E, we make sure to let you know upfront what would be considered an upgrade so you don’t have any surprises and can plan from the beginning which items you’d like to upgrade.
5. I Have To Build on Specific Land
This is sometimes true with certain builders. You’ve probably seen lot and builder tie-ins advertised before. However, that is definitely not always the case! We are able to build on your land or help you find land you’d like to purchase.
It’s true that building a custom home can feel overwhelming, but finding the right builder who understands your goals and budget can make all the difference. We hope you’ll consider us when you’re ready to build!
