The air is changing, it’s staying light out longer and daffodils are beginning to make an appearance — that can only mean one thing — spring is just around the corner! We’ve put together our favorite ways to freshen up your home this spring — for little to no cost!
Take a page out of Marie Kondo’s book and empty your space of anything that doesn’t ‘spark joy’ — or at least get rid of things you haven’t used this year. Remove things that don’t belong and make sure everything has a place so you don’t have any busy clutter. If you have collections (CDs, DVDs, etc.), put them in a box so that your view of the room doesn’t overwhelm you and is drawn to clean lines. Don’t forget to purge your closet too. This is the perfect time to transition to your lighter wardrobe. Bonus: Use Facebook Marketplace to list your items for free and make some extra cash!
2. Refresh Your Air
Open your windows, turn the heat off and let the breeze freshen your space. Getting fresh air in your space has so many benefits! It helps to get rid of stale air, remove dust, bring in the sunshine, reduce condensation and improve your health! Once you’ve got fresh air, light a candle full of essential oils. Our favorite is from Bath & Body Works.
3. Mix Up Your Furniture
This is such a great way to easily change up your ‘Fengshui’ for free! Try shifting a few items from each room, vacuum your couches and fluff your pillows or move around the items that sit on display. If you’re really feeling up to it, you could even paint your furniture to change it up even more.
4. Add Some Color
Some of the simplest things can be purchased to make the home feel different and updated. Seasonal decor doesn’t have to overwhelm your room, but it will bring a sense of joy to the room for the season. We recommend buying a fresh bouquet of flowers or even some house plants. If you don’t have a green thumb then you can buy fake stems to make your own. Another great option is adding some bright-colored pillows to your decor. You could also just buy new pillow shams for an, even more, cost-effective option. Adding new pops of color can make your space feel really different without costing a lot and bonus — you can use them again next Spring and even through the summer!
5. Make an All-Natural Cleaner
Wipe your countertops, sanitize your bathrooms, shining hardwood floors, and freshen your washing machine with a DIY lemon cleaner like this one. Don’t forget to dust too! Dust collects quickly and can be very visible on dark surfaces whether it’s a table, curtain, or a couch. Dusting surfaces frequently to avoid dust build-up is smart, but when freshening a particular room, giving everything a good wipe down will set you up for success.
